Why Won’t My Computer Turn On? Check This Before You Call IT
Hello! If you clicked on this blog post, it is probably because you are incredibly frustrated that your computer won't turn on. Before you spend money hiring an IT specialist—only to realize it was a quick fix you could have handled yourself—we want to give you a few simple things to try first.
1. Check the Cable Connections
Trace the power cord from your computer all the way to the wall. It is incredibly easy for a foot to accidentally bump a cord loose. Unplug both ends completely, then push them firmly back into place.
2. Test the Power Strip
Make sure your surge protector or power strip is actually turned on. To rule out a faulty power strip entirely, try plugging your computer directly into a working wall outlet instead.
3. Check the Laptop "Brick"
Laptop chargers come in two pieces. Ensure the cord from the wall is pushed all the way into the external adapter brick (the black box in the middle of the cable). If that connection is loose, your battery won't charge.
4. Give a Dead Battery 10 Minutes
If your laptop hit absolute zero, it might not wake up the second you plug it in. Leave it alone on the charger for 10 to 15 minutes to build up a baseline charge before hitting the power button again.
