Moving Your Business? How to Get Your Tech Online Before You Open
Moving your business to a new space is exciting, but can get stressful quick. There are so many things to get done when you are relocating. Between packing boxes, day-to-day operations, it's easy to forget about your technology. Waiting until move-in day to figure out your setup is a recipe for a stressful opening week with zero internet.
To make sure your technology is running when you open, here is what you need to focus on right now:
Map out your internet ports early: If you're doing any remodeling, run your structured data cables before the drywall goes up. Decide exactly where you want your internet ports so desks, printers, and phones plug directly into the wall with no messy cords stretching across the carpet.
Label everything: If you are doing this without a professional BEFORE unplugging a single device at the old office, take five minutes to label exactly where every cable goes. Tagging your routers, switches, and server cords means you can put everything back together in the new space in half the time without playing a guessing game.
Call your ISP weeks in advance: Getting a commercial internet line transferred or activated by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) always takes longer than you think. Get on their schedule early so the data line is fully live and tested before move-in day.
